Hi, we're Greenhouse's co-founders Emma Knight, Anthony Green, and Hana James.
We launched Greenhouse in January 2014 from a teeny little former coach house in Toronto(pictured). It was our first shop by day, and our first production facility by night. Our opening day was a bone-chilling Canadian Wednesday, and we were selling "cold-pressed juice," which was all but unheard-of in Toronto at the time. Worse, it had "cold" right in the name. We weren’t optimistic that anyone would show up.
Much to our surprise, a number of people did trek through the ice and snow to visit us on that first day, not all of whom were our parents. In fact, so many brave souls ventured in that we sold an entire night’s worth of our organic, plant-based beverages in an hour. As we watched a community form around organic plants bottled in glass, our mission took shape.
Eight years and a lot of innovation later, Greenhouse sells six categories of organic, plant-based beverages across Canada. Now, we are proud to offer a selection of Greenhouse’s products, including our Booster family and our all-purpose Plant Protein, to plant fans across North America. Plants may be at the bottom of the food chain, but as a kingdom, they’re at the top of our minds. Placing plants at the centre of the plate (and bowl, glass, bottle, etc.) is one of the most powerful levers that we as individuals have on our long-term health and that of our planet. When the thing that’s good for you is just plain good, everybody wins. Since day one we’ve been committed to creating organic, plant-based beverages bottled in glass that tick all the good boxes.
We make our beverages from organic ingredients: they are non-GMO and grown without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides, for healthy juices and a healthy planet. We prioritize produce from local farms as well as “seconds” or the vegetables and fruits that don’t win beauty contests (but taste great). Our leftover fibre is used to make dog biscuits, sustainable pizza crusts, and more.
All of our products are plant-based, meaning that they’re made from plants. Just plants. (Organic plants!)
We are very intentional about our processes and ingredients: health and sustainability always come first. A vertically integrated company, we make our beverages in our Toronto-area plant, which is SQF- and HACCP-certified. Our juices are cold-pressed and light filtered to protect nutrients. We don't use additives, preservatives, stabilizers, or gums. We don't rely on added sugars or sweet fruits to make our juices taste great. They do it all on their own.
